the information was good, but why do they not put more important info. i mean, the names of the dean and of the people who had a bad fate in that prison. why did the government take so long to cvlose down that reformatory? i just want to know.

i worked for a security service who had a little building that was built in front of the prison and it was a post were you kept log on who was at other places they would call give location and say everything good had to keep record even talk to gaurds that were closer at other places like hospitals ect patroling in vehicle and had walkie talkies whom had to check in with me also letting me know everything ok i worked third shift all alone i would hear glass break and other stuff would get freaked out sometimes and lock doors until morn when my relief would come in would also make who ever dropped me off for night come back and shine lights down drive when had to walk out to lock gate for night even was apart of the first haunted house done there had my 15 ft burmese python with me

The prison has been deeded to the preservation society and is still there. it has a website and has tours as well as ghost tours. The treachery there was really bad in the first have of the last century. Some of the prisoners were actually gay men arrested for being gay as it was illegal until 1972 in Ohio. Shawshank was filmed there.

my dad was an inmate in mansfield from 1955-56 and from storys we hear he was beatin and left in the hole with no food or water for days and left with out health care when it was needed

i will be doing the night tour at mandsfield prison for the guost hunting april 2. i am looking forward to do it. i heard it’s well worth doing. the last two years me and a few friends went to moundsville prison.

My dad and 3 of my uncles worked here when it was in operation as a prison in the 70′s. It has alot of history for my family, I have not been able to visit it yet, but I hope I can one day soon.

I spent last night in this wonderful place. Its very dusty so if you decide to go pack some allergy medicine. The tour guides are very nice. I had lots of fun and caught a few things unexplained in many photos. This was a 7 hour drive but well worth it. I hope to go back again this year.

I work for a prison. I would love to visit this place. They say there is things that happen where I work but I have never expericened them myself. This building is amazing. Ohio is not very far from me I just might have to see this place!!!

how very sad….I notice this was taken in 2008, I truly hope this beautiful building still remains……..and all its inhabitants…….. both past and present perhaps, I could see it converted into a back packers…… for those who are game enough to stay…….Once it is gone…it is gone forever…a peice of our history…….such a magnificent building, i hope it still stands to this day
